Thunder in The Valley 2010, in-review

The 8th Annual Pauls Valley Rotary Club “Thunder in The Valley” took place Saturday, May 1, 2010, in Pauls Valley’s Wacker Park. The bull riding event featured 36 total riders from throughout Garvin County, Oklahoma, the southern United States, and Brazil, South America. Exclusive interview with Clint Miller, “Thunder in The Valley” 2010 winner (audio) Clint Miller, 16, of Sulphur, Okla., won the contest with a score of 85 points. Points are based upon the combined performance of the rider, and the bull. Miller took home a check for $1,920, and the champion’s belt...

Wildflowers of Garvin County

According to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation website, Oklahomans have paid over $250,000 to the ODOT Roadside Wildflower Program since its inception in 1990. To date, the program has seen approx. 2,300 acres of wildflowers planted alongside the state’s roadways. Further, the Interstate 35–Garvin County corridor is one such area to have received a number of these plantings. Responses to proposed ‘liquor’ election

Garvin County (Okla.) Commissioners approved a “county-wide special election” this afternoon for the sale of “alcoholic beverages by individual drink”.
The election, scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010, is said to cost Garvin Co. taxpayers nothing due to its approval taking place during today’s commissioners meeting.

Local coach leads team to state championship

Brandon Henry, of Pauls Valley, Okla., recently did the unthinkable with a cast of unlikely characters. The Garvin County-native led a team of supplanted adolescent girls from his community to the Oklahoma 10U Class C State Softball Championship on Sunday, June 20.
